Owner & Trainer - Mary Burney, PFT, SN, CKC

As a young girl growing up in Toronto, Mary Burney was always involved in recreational sports. She dreamed of becoming like Jane Fonda or the girls on the "20-minute workout" and always envisioned that fitness would be a dominant force in her life.

As an adult, however, the situation changed. After getting married and having kids her priorities in life shifted. While she always had her hand in some sort of fitness activity - be it step classes, aerobics, or working out at the gym, she had to fit it around her other priorities and had little time to dedicate to it. As a result she found that her fitness level declined and she put on extra weight.

Mary decided to do something about her situation after realizing that if she didn't look after herself then she wouldn't be in any shape to look after her family. She tried a wide variety of the popular fitness and diet programs but found that nothing was working. Finally, after years of failing, Mary made a careful assessment of what she had tried and why it had not worked and came to the realization that only with consistent vigorous exercise and careful attention to what she ate would she be able to achieve her goals of a healthier weight and stronger body. By applying what she had learned, she was able to do it.

In her research into fitness techniques Mary discovered kettlebells and incorporated them into her exercise program. She loved them so much that she decided to become a Certified Kettlebell Coach, under Shawn Mozen of Agatsu Inc. While instructing at kettlebell classes she discovered just how much she enjoyed teaching. Mary developed this passion for teaching by becoming a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer (YMCA). She then furthered her training by becoming a Certified Sports Nutritionist (YMCA).

Having made the journey herself, Mary was determined to share her experiences and assist others to meet their fitness and nutrition goals. Taking everything that she had learned, she developed a circuit-based methodology that combines a variety of time-tested conditioning techniques into a high-intensity workout that develops both strength and overall fitness. She formed Circuit Conditioning as a way to bring this methodology, as well as solid nutrition counseling, to everyone.
