Kettlebell Training

Join us for the most complete workout you'll ever have!

Though the Russians have long understood its benefits, the "girya" or kettlebell has only recently been introduced to North America. Deceptively simple in appearance (it looks like an iron cannonball with a handle) in the hands of a properly-trained individual it becomes a powerful tool for building both strength and endurance.

Getting started with kettlebells is easy and fun! They come in a variety of sizes so you can select a starting weight that is comfortable for you. You'll start with the basic moves, which will have you feeling the burn in as quickly as ten minutes. You'll be guided every step of the way by an Agatsu Kettlebell Certified trainer, who will ensure that you perform each movement safely and with the proper form. Once you have mastered the basics, you'll progress to the more challenging techniques. At every step, the moves and routines are constantly changing. This ensures that your progress doesn't "plateau" as your body gets used to particular movements. Instead it must constantly adapt to the changing demands that the kettlebell places upon it - and the more it has to adapt the greater (and quicker) your results.

Kettlebell training can be adapted to meet your specific fitness goals. If your focus is more on gaining strength then you would incorporate more of the "press" exercises into your training. If better endurance is your goal, the "swing" exercises will play a major role in your regime. Best of all, whichever is your focus, you'll never have to sacrifice one for the other - you'll still improve in both. Kettlebells provide a superior strength and cardiovascular workout in less time than either can alone, which is why they are now being used by elite athletes in nearly all disciplines, and in particular in fields such as football and mixed martial arts.

While the benefits to athletes are obvious, kettlebell training can be a great benefit to you even if you don't participate in sports of any kind. In traditional strength training, each exercise is designed to isolate and work a specific set of muscles. For example, a chest-press focuses on the pectoral muscles. The problem is that in everyday life you never use your pectorals exclusively - you utilize a whole series of muscles, from head-to-toe, in what is called the "kinetic chain". And like any chain, it's only as strong as its weakest link. This is why you can have strong pecs and still hurt yourself picking up the morning paper. Kettlebell training, by contrast, uses movements that mimic those used in everyday life and therefore reinforces this kinetic chain. This means that, with regular kettlebell training, you'll notice that the things you do everyday - pick up your kids, swing a golf club, loading bags into the trunk of the car are easier to do and less likely to cause those nagging injuries.
